Feast your eyes for a houseboat cruise through the picturesque Vembanad lake that remains a major tourist attraction of Kerala. Our friendly representative guides you to the largest lake of the state, that provides an ideal habitat for hundreds of waterfowls, shrimps, and also acts as a home to a variety of migratory birds. The people living on the shores of the lake are highly dependent on agriculture, fishing, tourism and lime shell collection for their survival. The continued mining has led to a grave threat to the ecosystem and the deterioration in the quality of the lake has been a major concern and this is where the conservation methods play a significant role. You will be briefed about the Vembanad Wetlands Conservation Program, an organization initiated by Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), wherein the local communities undertake various measures to conserve the lake and the surrounding wetlands.
As you take in the freshness of Vembanad, witness the traditional methods of fish catching and processing undertaken by the local fishermen, that in turn serves as a model for the management of lake resources. Afterwards, you reach Alleppey and there you will enjoy a short cruise through the backwaters in a traditional houseboat where you will be provided with a sumptuous Kerala lunch. After you have had your fill in revelling in backwaters, you will be taken to the Cochin Port for departure.
