Visit a family engaged in traditional pottery for generations with the trade being conducted by all three generations within the family, see the traditional methods they use in making their products and you may also get a chance to try your hand at pottery! Follow this by visiting a modern outfit producing roof tiles. Although the raw material and the process may seem similar, there is a vast difference in the age-old and modern machinery being used.

Further on, enjoy a ‘Batik experience’ with one of Sri Lanka’s leading artists, designer and master of Batik creations, Mr Eric Suriyasena. He will meet you at his private factory premises located in the city of Marawila. This is where he used to create his unique designs and experiment extensively. Batik art uses a unique method of wax resist and then dyeing the cloth over and over to create multicoloured designs. You can also select a ‘design art’ from those available or use your own art design. The mentors will then provide you with the appropriate fabric to suit your selected design. Thereafter you will learn how to engage in the traditional dyeing on cloth using a wax resist method. You can enjoy a relaxing time with refreshments along with your host while your creations dry out and are ready.
