Day excursions Galle Fort/Stilt Fishing Man/Madu river boat tour/Turtle hatchery
Sailing down through Madu River we will see a spectacular blend of nature and culture. This beautiful wetland with islands, mangroves, and a complex ecosystem will offer you a wonderful sight of nature. While sailing through Madu River we will come across Balapitiya and temple island of Koth Duwa. On the way to Galle, we will visit Turtle Hatchery at Kosgoda, where we can see numerous species of sea turtles. Our next spot will be Koggala, a fishing village famous for its fishing techniques used by fishermen. We will then proceed to Galle Fort, which is a magnificent piece of Dutch architecture. This will be followed by visiting moonstone miens and Ambalangoda Masks.
Itinerary You will be picked up and taken to Balapitiya by our team. Approximately 2.5 hours drive from Colombo.
Madu River Boat Safari You will be taken for a boat ride through the beautiful Madu River at Balapitiya. This journey in the boat will give you a close sight of the complex ecosystem of wetland. This estuary is a bio-diversity hot spot with reptiles and numerous species of freshwater fish. The inhabitants of Balapitiya are known for their cinnamon plantations and fish pedicure centers.
Kothu Duwa temple While sailing down through Madu River you will be taken to Kothu Duwa temple which is located at Kothu Duwa Island. This ancient Buddhist temple dates back to Sinhalese kings in Sri Lanka. Madu River is a pure blend of ecological and aesthetical significance.
Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery Turtle hatcheries at Kosgoda are established for a social cause. As sea turtles are endangered species, eggs and baby turtles are protected safely by these centers. A visit to this place will be a rare chance in our lives to contribute to our nature for a good cause.
Stilt Fishing Man We will then head to Koggala, the fishing village to witness the unique fishing technique used by the fishermen. They conduct fishing by balancing on a pole in shallow waters which is why it is named as stilt fishing. This is a unique way of fishing which is handed over from ancestors.
Galle Fort Our next destination will be Galle Fort a heritage site of Dutch architecture. It is a perfect mix of European architecture and South Asian traditions.
Moonstone mines in Meetiyagoda We will then take you to Moonstone mines at Meetiyagoda which is the largest moonstone mine in Sri Lanka, which produces moonstone with a blue shine.
Ambalangoda Masks This will be our last destination in the Galle district. Ambalangoda is a small town honored for its production of wooden masks which is a major part of the Sri Lankan tradition. You will be taken back safely by our team after the visit.
