Sri Lanka’s capital city of Colombo is a unique blend of old and modern architecture, traditions and culture. Colombo is the major port in Sri Lanka and is also the commercial and administrative hub of the country. There are monuments from the colonial era with from Dutch, Portuguese and British influences. Along with them are the modern structures and the bustling nature of modern life in the city.
You will be picked from your port by our English speaking expert tour guide and transferred by air-conditioned car to the boarding point for the open deck bus tour. The first stop shall be the Gangarama Temple & Chapter House or the National Museum, a choice that’s open. The Gangarama Temple is situated right in the heart of the city and is one of Colombo’s leading attractions. It stands majestically bordering the Beira Lake, one of the largest lakes in Colombo. Simamalaka, a chapter house is another part of the temple but separated by a distance of 500metres. The National Museum in Colombo is the largest museum with artefacts dating back to 1877 and gives you a glimpse into the country’s historical past. Your next stop will be the majestic stone structure of the Independence Memorial Hall, which commemorates Sri Lanka’s independence from British Colonial rule. You will later stop by at the Arcade Independence Square, an imposing shopping arcade built by renovating colonial-era buildings. You can have your share of shopping and refreshments before heading on the way back to port. The tour covers entrance fees to monuments visited.
