The Maldives, a country!!
Located in the Arabian Sea of the Indian Ocean, Maldives is a small country in South Asia. Officially, this country is referred to as the Republic of Maldives. It is the smallest Asian country known to man with a population of around 392,000.
The Maldives is blessed with a large number of coral islands. These form a natural barrier and the Maldives government has allowed only one opening at the southern end of the country for the ships to pass by.
The livelihood of these people is mainly fishing. With people coming here to see and learn more about the deep sea and underwater treasures, tourism is booming at this place and can be one of the other livelihoods as well. The religion of Maldives is predominantly Islam; however, there was a period when Buddhism was the main worshipping system here.

Maldivian or Dhivehi Cuisine
One aspect about the Maldives that makes it thrive, apart from corals, is the Maldivian cuisine, which is also known as Dhivehi cuisine. The cuisine is a blended mix of all types of foods that are available in neighboring countries such as India and Sri Lanka.
The most essential ingredients include fish, coconut, breadfruit, tubers, and millet. There is a rich influence of foreign cuisine, as this place is always filled with travel enthusiasts, snorkelers, scuba divers and coral hunters. With the influence of trade and travel, as mentioned the cuisine has evolved to accommodate scores of palates that come here. Maldivian or Dhivehi cuisine has its unique blends, which it inherited from various cuisines they are accustomed to.
Although the cuisine has evolved based on various factors, as mentioned before, Maldivian or Dhivehi food revolves around three main ingredients: fish, starch grains, and coconut. Breadfruit is also used when available. Mild spices with delicate sweetness provide an exotic flavor to the food here. The ancient cooking techniques that have been passed through generations, give the food here the uniqueness it needs.
Snorkeling
Since the Maldives have around 20 to 25 coral atolls, spread around 1200 small discreet islands, snorkeling enthusiasts come here to enjoy the warm water and sea delights. With uninhabited islands in the Maldives providing enough privacy & freedom to experiment with snorkeling, people flock to here trying to learn and enjoy snorkeling. One example of such a place is banana reefs; however, the water currents are quite strong here.
Deep-Sea Delights
There are more than 500 species of corals in and around the Maldives. Among these, around 70 to 100 or more are present in various reef systems, which are part of Maldives. A majority of these coralline systems found near and around a thousand uninhabited Maldives islands. There are various exotic species of fish that amount to around 700 to 800.
